My First Day Fishing is an almanac for the complete beginner: rods and rigs, knots and hooks, baits and lures, a fish-identification guide, and how to care for what you catch. Ninety-six pages, illustrated throughout by Joanna Lisowiec, with a foreword from Jeremy Wade. It is written for anglers from about seven up.
It works because it teaches watercraft, not just tackle. Reading a river, pond or canal, finding the spot, thinking like a fish. That is the same thing our coaches teach on the bank, which is why the book and a First Time Fishing session go together so well: read it before, or read it after a taste of the real thing, and the two reinforce each other.
